MoCDA Permanent Collection
The MoCDA Permanent Collection aims to document, preserve and shape the legacy of digital art. We prioritize several key areas of focus to advance the position of digital art globally, through unique curatorial insight and education. Our goal is to ensure that the collection is not only inclusive of digital artists from diverse backgrounds but is also accessible and open to the public.
We carefully select works from a representative and diverse group of digital artists that are deemed the best of historical and contemporary art. With the help of our insightful curatorial knowledge, we aim to create a collection with lasting value that can be used throughout time.

"This 60-second, 60 fps, 1440 x 1440 px video loop is from "Dreamscapes (Retrospective)," my first curated collection of tokenized artworks. This piece illustrates one of a collection of grand scale Dreamscapes that explore multi-level dreaming effects. These works begin with a detail of one of my panoramic images to which multiple styles of neural network hallucination are applied at multiple scales. This artwork fuses computational photography and artificial intelligence; specifically, it consists of an 84-shot, 239+ megapixel HDR panorama I captured in Kolob Canyon (Zion National Park) in June 2014 that was interpreted in three discrete passes at three different scales (hence the term “three-pass”) by a proprietary enhanced version of Google’s “DeepDream” AI software in March 2020." Created by Renderfruit in 2023 for the Museum of Contemporary Digital Art’s Permanent Collection, “3D Organ” is a black and white digital 3D animation.
“The melancholic birth of a 3D Organ, trying to understand its function.
Building its parts through intuition, in total loneliness.
Deprived from the shelter of the body it should belong,
It will soon start breathing.” (Renderfruit)

Created by Thato Tatai in 2023 for the Museum of Contemporary Digital Art’s Permanent Collection, “Head” consists of layered geometric primitives in addition to extruded and rotated forms, rendered in earth colours and textures. The shapes and forms are arranged to depict an abstracted head in profile, the intention being to reduce it to the essential components to emphasize the structure. “Head" probes the relationship between the internal and external by evaluating stability, order and perception.

"Fusing binary code with scrawling handwritten script, Cursive Binary is a proposed language invented by poet and artist Sasha Stiles, offered as a mode of transhuman connection and communication here at the dawn of the Novacene era.
This piece was created for "MEMENTO MINTI - If you stop contributing, you will be forgotten," a 2022 group show at the Museum of Contemporary Digital Art. Curated by Filippo Lorenzin and Marie Chatel, this exhibition explores the thin line between self-promotion and survival strategy in the making and sharing of digital art." (Sasha Stiles)

"2022, The fire that is crypto burns like fuel was dumped on a tiny fire. 2021 lit the fire and now we are all watching it all just burn to the ground. Trying to build a new economy while speculators and cheats try to profit before it is finished. Lucky for the artists we can still create despite the fire that rages. To the creation of 2023!" "Themes of gender & sexuality expressed in a symbol of luck, fate, a cosmic slot machine. Luck of the mint, art of the flip to explain the randomness of one’s unique traits. The fruit of the slots to the binary I Ching of 8 sides & planetary gender. These traits are in the art & in us. They might seem imperfect but their unique lucky combination give each a power no one else has." (Bård Ionson)

In the beginning, there was a floating rock evolving between worlds, with no fixed location named A-δῆλος -meaning the “non visible”. When Leto, one of Zeus’ mortal lovers, gave birth to Artemis and Apollo, this island became Delos “the visible”, preserving the young gods from the wrath of the goddess Hera. In Ancient Greece, this 3.5 sq. km islet was for centuries one of the most sacred places, as well as an extremely prosperous and cosmopolitan Hellenistic centre. The Cyclades archipelago form an imaginary circle around Delos.
In the VIth century BC, tyrants from Athens decided to seize power on Delos and to give it back its symbolic and mythological power. During the “Purification of Delos”, they thus excavated the numerous tombs of the local inhabitants, and transported them in a pit on the neighboring island of Rineia.
From now on, it was forbidden to be born and to die, on Delos.
Since 2018, aurèce vettier has trained GANs as part of the Potential Herbarium series, on more than 4 million herbarium boards, and generated many fascinating imaginary plant shapes. These shapes are quite anti-darwinian, and are a seminal constituent of their visual research.
Here, using AI-generated, imaginary leaves, they recreate their ideal archipelago. This can also be seen as a tribute to Offert Dapper, a Dutch physician and writer who wrote books about world geography, including the Cycladic islands, although he never traveled outside the Netherlands.

"Reflecting the social media influencers of today, MIRRORS turns the spotlight on a cast of history’s A-list emperors, conquistadors and beloved leaders, starring in self-indulgent infamy as they smile and exhibit their lavish wealth, costumes, and ego. Their historic exploits immortalized them, yet they all shine in the common light of narcissism. Narcissism is the spell that binds them, forever fueling their lust for glory." (Federico Solmi)
