With his ethereal compositions, Mathieu Merlet-Briand explores internet materiality. In #DESERT, he gathers a database of online images depicting dunes of sand. Elements come together through the use of algorithms, bringing a myriad of pictures to inhabit his canvas. Hues of orange and yellow remind of the physical reality of the photographed subject. While withdrawing from their initial matter, they show a weaving of relics from the world wide web.

Hues of green and yellow remind of the physical reality of the photographed subject. Meanwhile, elements come together through algorithms, bringing a myriad of pictures to inhabit the canvas. The fragments add up to form an abstract, bi-chromatic whole. While withdrawing from their initial matter, they show a weaving of relics from the world wide web.

Le Falher emphasises the tension between the human artist and the machine, working as a collaboration through iteration and feedback. This work is visually striking, and makes links to the traditional art historical canon arguably making it more accessible.

"Tangible Data" is an oxymoron. Or so it seems. In this series, Baron Lanteigne materialises our relation to software  and telecommunications. While data remains in flux, communication depends on tangible infrastructures and devices to circulate. Baron Lanteigne demonstrates the constant and seamless manipulation of interfaces. He brings  forth what everyone might forget: access to online content is mediated and involves body interactions just as much  as any IRL experience.

The series includes various works and media that the artist presents depending on the exhibition context to imbricate displays  within displays, mixing tangible and virtual elements. For its first feature in the metaverse, looped videos ‘Tangible Data 1,4  and 5’ appear alongside ‘80 Gbytes SATA HDD’, a virtual sculpture whose rigid shape has become malleable, as if moulded  under our grasp." 851px x 315px is a performance that took place from 12th September to 1st November 2012. The work consisted in  collecting a series of images that accidentally fit exactly the dimensions of the Facebook cover (851px x 315px) by  looking at a period before the advent of the Facebook timeline. 

Lorusso highlights the boundaries that the interfaces of social media platforms impose on users and how these  dimensions shape one’s expression, as if it were an advertising banner. Additionally, the performance reflects upon  the construction of identity that takes place on dominant forms of social media, through a rejection of any personal  expression which is substituted by a set of rules such as picture dimensions and time.

Working ritualistically with deep-learning algorithms, Abosch has distilled emotional value from more than 100,000 public social media posts that include the word “love.” The resultant “truths” are subsequently encrypted into three layers of hexadecimal alphanumerics superimposed upon each other.
 Through the reliability of an unwavering red field, the artist conveys the absolutism of love, while three distinct compositions of faint alphanumerics perform a triangulated loop, undermining any suggestion that love can be fully understood.
