Hot Head is a work from Travis LeRoy Southworth's series Color, Balance. His artistic process often involves collecting digital bits of detritus from his day job as a Photo Retoucher. These imperfections and colour adjustments become the base materials to construct new portraits in Photoshop. Pixels are pushed and fine layers of colour are added, blending remnants of the figure into the background. People tend to see multiple images in his work, with its soft hues and subtle compositions. For most, Hot Head sits between a portrait ablaze and a smoldering heart.
Hot Head on canvas was presented at Southworth's solo exhibition "I Am A Portrait" at Undercurrent, Brooklyn, NY - January 2020.
